In conjunction with the 2023 Financial Annual General Meeting, the Australasian Bat Society is hosting The Ghost Bat Blitz from 12-18 May 2023 in the Pine Creek region, Northern Territory. The Blitz will assist with data collection for a Charles Darwin University project that aims to update information on the ghost bat's (Macroderma gigas) distribution and population size and to fill knowledge gaps about the species’ ecology. During the field trip, we will also collect reference calls from other NT bat species, to facilitate the production of a full-spectrum echolocation call key for the Top End of the Northern Territory.
Registration includes accommodation in Pine Creek and breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the duration of the field trip. Attendees will be responsible for organising their own flights, 4x4 vehicles and fuel. Please look at the trip information sheet for more detailed information.
We are currently awaiting confirmation on whether children are permitted to stay at the camp. We expect to find out in the coming days. If you are planning on bringing a child, please get in touch with us via email prior to registering.
NOTE: A ghost bat recovery plan workshop will be held on the 19th of May 2023 in Darwin, but attendance will be targeted to those with expertise in the species and other key stakeholders.
